Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to British writer Doris Lessing, 87. On 22 October, Doris Lessing will celebrate her 88th birthday.But, she has already received her birthday present with this Nobel Prize.
Over five decades she has written about feminism, politics, her upbringing in Africa, and even some science fiction. The Nobel Prize jury describes her as "that epicist of the female experience, who with scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny".
The Golden Notebook is widely regarded as the best-known of Doris Lessing's books. Following its publication in 1962 she was embraced by the feminist movement, although she herself always rejected the feminist label.
